KM 220: ROME - CERI - MONTEFIASCONE - MONTALCINO (B / L / D)
Early departure after a coffee and a briefing, in which the coordinator will explain the route, the dynamics and what is necessary for a peaceful departure. The first stop is Ceri, a village in the Lazio countryside entirely dug into the tufa rock. From Ceri, after a few kilometers, take the Cassia SS2 to cross Viterbo and reach Montefiascone for a light lunch. Back on the road to Montalcino, a medieval city of extraordinary beauty where, once you arrive, a visit is planned. Dinner, certainly accompanied by a good Brunello, and night in a farmhouse.
After breakfast, we resume driving along the SS2 Cassia to cover the most beautiful part of the itinerary. The first destination is Siena, where there is an essential tour of the historic center and a visit to the headquarters of the contrada della Lupa. Looking closely at photos, films and trophies of the Palio, it is possible to better understand the passion of the Contrada members for their flag. We then reach the small village of Monteriggioni for a walk inside its fortified walls. After having eaten a light meal, we head towards Florence through the heart of Chianti. Leave your suitcases at the hotel and once you reach the historic center, you will have some free time to visit the city and have dinner. Return and overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, get ready for an intense morning of driving through the winding roads of the Pisan hills. First stop in San Gimignano for a visit to the medieval village and its imposing towers. At the end of the visit, we head to Volterra for a short excursion to the city and a light lunch. The last destination of the day is Livorno, a port city renowned for its historic center nicknamed "Venice" for the many canals that cross it. Dinner in a typical seaside restaurant and accommodation in a B & amp; B in the center.
The return to Rome is expected in the late afternoon, not before having made a stop in Saturnia for a bath in the famous sulphurous water baths. After a packed lunch we arrive in Tarquinia for a visit to the Etruscan necropolis. Delivery of the cars in the garage and end of the tour.
