The environment and the technical influence have contributed to the deterioration of the fresco, that has gone through many restorations.

The latest restoration was in 1999. Many scientific method were used to refurbish the original colors and, when possible, to remove the traces of the applied varnish in previous attempts to refurbish the fresco. The Last Supper by Leonardo is located in the original place in the wall of the ancient Dominican convent’s dining room connected with the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, precisely in the refectory of the convent and it is one of the most famous and well-known artworks in the world.
