The long weekend begins with a visit to Alatri , accompanied by a professional archaeologist. You will be guided inside the Acropolis and to discover the Civic Museum and the Sala del Cristo in the Labyrinth. On the second day, visit to the archaeological area of Ostia Antica and Albano Laziale with the famous Roman Cisternone, the only one still functioning in the world, the Roman Amphitheater and the Baths of Caracalla. The third day, always accompanied by a professional archaeologist, is dedicated to the discovery of Nemi and Lanuvio . During the day you will visit the Museum of Roman Ships of Caligula, the Temple of Diana on Lake Nemi, the Sanctuary of Juno and the snake's cave. Finally, the last day will be dedicated to the visit of Palestrina. Do not miss the National Archaeological Museum, with the famous Nile mosaic, the ancient Sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia and the Terrace of the hemicycles. Free arrival of the group in Alatri, the city of the Cyclops. Our archaeologist will accompany the group to discover the extraordinary beauties of the Urban Museum System of this suggestive village: the Acropolis, surrounded by polygonal walls, called cyclopean walls; which is accessed by two doors (Porta Maggiore and Porta Minore) and by a ramp at the base of which stood in antiquity a portico of which some ruins remain, the Civic Museum and the Sala del Cristo nel Labirinto. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we will reach Ostia Antica for a guided tour of the archaeological and monumental area. Free lunch. In the afternoon we will continue to Albano Laziale to visit the Roman Amphitheater, built according to the nearby Castra Albana, the camp of the Legio II Parthica founded by the emperor Septimius Severus (193-211), the only Roman Cisternone in the world still functioning and the Baths of Caracalla, an imposing building complex in Albano Laziale was already known in ancient times as the palace of the mythical king Ascanio, son of Aeneas and founder of Albalonga. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. The first part of the day will be dedicated to Nemi for a visit to the Museum of Roman Ships, built to house the hulls of the two large ships of the Emperor Caligula, recovered between 1929 and 1932 on the bottom of Lake Nemi. Following visit to the Temple of Diana Nemorense, which stood immersed in the woods, on the shores of Lake Nemi (which for this reason was also called "Diana's mirror") and, according to archaeological studies, the place of worship was already revered in the age of the Bronze Age. Free lunch. In the afternoon we will continue to Lanuvio, historical introduction to the city and guided tour of the Sanctuary of Juno Sospita and of the snake's cave with the new excavations in Pantanacci. Visit of the Lanuvino Civic Museum, a municipal archaeological conservation institution. The museum itinerary is divided into three sections; pre-Roman and Roman section; epigraphic section; medieval section. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Morning dedicated to the discovery of Palestrina and its National Archaeological Museum, housed in the historic Colonna Barberini palace and which houses most of the archaeological finds found in the city, with the highlight of the museum collection, the famous 'mosaic of the Nile', a masterpiece of art and technique dating back to the end of the second century. BC The real surprise, however, are the 16 rooms that make up the museum, including statues and reliefs, altars and ex-votos, cysts and mosaics. Leaving the museum, we will visit the splendid outdoor archaeological area with the remains of the architectural structures and the imposing terraces of the ancient Sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia. We will descend monumental stairs and ramps and we will stop on the Terrace of the hemicycles. Return to their respective places of origin.
