Monte Amiata was born following volcanic eruptions that occurred over 180,000 years ago. The most ancient traces of life are from the Paleolithic: rock paintings that can be observed in the Archer's Cave . From the Palaeolithic onwards, throughout the ages, the Amiata has always attracted different populations who have exploited its numerous material and spiritual resources, making it a territory steeped in legends and traditions and sometimes even adored as the Mother Mountain. From the Etruscans to the Romans, from the Middle Ages – to which almost all the settlements still present today date back – to the modern era, with the mysticism of the followers of David Lazzaretti, the Prophet of Amiata, and the mining exploitation, the folk and cultural heritage del Monte Amiata constitutes a fascinating world, at times mysterious, where the past and the present come together to give life to museums, gardens, parks, festivals, parties and celebrations. It is not possible to tell the ancient history of the volcano in a few lines: the only way to discover it is to live it and let yourself be conquered by it. There will be important moments to savor typical products and recipes of the territory.
In particular, during this trip, it will be possible to immerse yourself in the waters of the natural thermal baths of San Filippo , in the thermal baths of Bagno Vignoni and, finally, in the Terme di Saturnia , one of the most famous thermal parks in Europe. In combination with moments of relaxation, we offer moments of cultural discoveries, such as Abbadia San Salvore or Castiglione d'Orcia and various moments dedicated to satisfying the taste, with lunches and dinners rich in typical products.
